Safe Use of Abrasive Wheeled Tools

OBJECTIVES

The aims of this course are to give participants the necessary basic knowledge and skills through theoretical and practical training to safely and effectively manage cutting, grinding, and polishing processes through the use of abrasive wheeled tools.

This training course is designed to meet the requirements for training in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER 1998) for safety in the use of abrasive wheels and provide delegates with the knowledge and ability to cut, grind, or polish safely.

CONTENT

After Completion of the course the delegate will have achieved skills and basic knowledge about:

  • The hazards and risks associated with the use of abrasive wheeled tools such as angle and bench grinders.
  • Inspection, cleaning, and use of abrasive wheeled tools with cutting, grinding, and polishing discs.
  • The importance of machine maintenance.
  • Safe mounting of abrasive wheels and discs.
  • Dressing and conditioning abrasive wheels on bench grinders.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

There are no formal admission requirements though the course is recommended for:

  • Operators and supervisors working with angle grinders, or bench and pedestal grinders.
  • Personnel working in building, construction, fabrication, general engineering, automotive workshops and maintenance departments.
  • Anyone currently operating this machinery or with a desire to learn to do so safely.

COURSE DURATION

Abrasive wheels training course – Half Day
Usually paired with ‘Safe Use of Chain Hoists’ training to make a full day.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

During training delegates are expected to provide their own Safety Boots!

All other PPE will be provided.
